Grade 4 titanium round bar belongs to industrial pure titanium, which is the highest strength grade of unalloyed titanium. Its chemical composition and properties are regulated by several international standards, including: ASTM B348 (bar and billet), ASTM F67 (surgical implants), ASTM B265 (sheet and strip), AMS 4901, ISO 5832-2, UNS R5070.


The main chemical components include: titanium (Ti): remainder (≥98.6%), iron (Fe): ≤0.50% (major impurity element, enhances strength), oxygen (O): ≤0.40%, nitrogen (N): ≤0.05%, carbon (C): ≤0.08%, hydrogen (H): ≤0.015%. It has excellent corrosion resistance, performing well in corrosive media such as oxidation, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and chlorides. Additionally, it exhibits good corrosion resistance under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.

Density: 4.51 g/cm³ (approximately 57% of steel). Melting point: 1660°C (β phase transition temperature is about 882.5 °C). Thermal conductivity: 16.95 W/m·K (low thermal conductivity, suitable for insulation applications). Elastic modulus: 105-120 GPa (lower than steel, excellent energy absorption properties). Tensile strength (Rm): ≥550 MPa. Yield strength (Rp0.2): ≥483 MPa. Elongation (A): ≥15%, reduction of area ≥25%

 

Processing technic

 

Diameter: 3 mm to 800 mm (common specifications range from 3-350 mm). Length: standard length ≤ 6000 mm, custom cutting is supported. Tolerance: varies depending on the diameter, ranging from ±0.13 mm (for 6.35 mm bar) to +1.59 mm (for 114.30 mm bar). Surface treatment: polishing, acid washing, spinning, etc., to enhance corrosion resistance. Mainly hot working (forging, rolling), with cold drawing for precise dimensional control. Annealing temperature typically ranges from 649-816 °C, air cooling to optimize microstructure uniformity.

 

The main application areas of Grade 4 titanium alloy round bar include

 

Aerospace: fuselage structural components, engine parts (such as compressor discs). Marine and Chemicals: seawater desalination equipment, heat exchangers, reactors, treatment wells for corrosive waste liquids. Performs better than stainless steel in chloride-containing environments. Medical Field: surgical implants (such as bone screws, intramedullary nails), dental instruments. Excellent biocompatibility, non-toxic for long-term implantation. Industry and Energy: nuclear power plant equipment, wear-resistant components of heavy machinery (such as mixing rods). Electrode materials (small diameter bars) used in electroplating and ultrasonic equipment.
